Dear Friends and Supporters,
I started this campaign back on January 23rd and it has been a long journey to victory. I want to thank you for your generous support of
my re-election. Your contributions of volunteer hours and donations have solidified that I will continue to stand up for our city and be your voice on the City Council.
I am humbled by the overwhelming vote of confidence Seattle voters gave me on Tuesday. I am leading by over 25 points: 63% to 36%!
Without your generous support, this win would not be possible. Team
Drago doorbelled over 10,000 homes, telephoned thousands of voters, and wrote letters to the editor helping us reach voters from Rainier
Valley to Lake City.
In the next four years we face many challenges. Most important will be
finding cost-effective solutions to get us out of gridlock. I look
forward to tackling this and other issues that face Seattle. It is
with great pleasure that I return to City Hall as your councilmember.
Once again I want to thank you all for your generous support over the
past months and years. Without you, none of this would have been
possible.
Yours,
Jan
I have a straightforward approach to public service: listen, lead, and focus on results.
These skills were developed over a lifetime as a teacher, mother and grandmother, small business owner and neighborhood public safety advocate.
As your councilmember I am focused and responsive—I take charge on big issues and work hard to solve constituent concerns.
My record reflects the mainstream values of our city, and I’m excited to continue serving the people of Seattle:
- BETTER TRANSPORTATION: Even in tough economic times I’ve assured funding basics like maintaining streets and bridges. I’ve fought for our share of money for priorities like the Viaduct and light rail.
I will make the viaduct replacement and transportation improvements my primary focus for the next four years—nothing is more important for our economy and quality of life.
- EFFICIENT TRANSIT: Seattle needs integrated, cost effective transit solutions to move people, reduce traffic and protect air quality. I’ve helped make sure light rail serves our neighborhoods, and I have demanded that the Monorail Board develop a realistic solution or end the tax.
- HELPING SCHOOLS: Seattle’s children deserve betters schools. I’ll expand results-driven partnerships with our schools—building on the legacy I helped create through the original Families and Education Levy.
- NEW JOBS AND A STRONG DOWNTOWN: Years ago, no one thought we could revitalize downtown Seattle. Working with Mayor Norm Rice, we created thousands of jobs and exciting housing and retail opportunities. I’ll continue to support progressive development policies that promote jobs and affordable housing while protecting residential neighborhoods.
- NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENTS: I’ve voted to fund neighborhood police, voted against closing fire stations, and helped small business owners and community groups improve our neighborhood commercial districts.
- NEW PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS: I led council review for the Pro-Parks levy investing millions in new and improved parks and playgrounds, restoring forest and salmon habitat, and providing off-leash areas and P-Patches.
- ASSISTING SENIORS AND VULNERABLE: When Enron created a rate crisis at City Light, I worked to make sure low-income families and seniors got a break. As Budget Chair I restored funding for human services and health clinics.
Please visit the endorsements page for a full list of my supporters including The Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Stranger, Washington Conservation Voters, King County Democrats, Seattle Firefighters, Alki Foundation, Democratic leaders, local business, and unions and over 300 Seattle citizens. Thank you for your support, and I appreciate your vote.
